Greetings all!
Have you heard enough about the economy yet?
Need a break?
Escape to the Ogoki Frontier in 2010!
As we look back on the summer (that wasn’t) of 2009 it’s not hard to believe that we recorded the coldest and wettest one ever but we were busy here at Ogoki. We built two new docks at both Pickett and Chipchase. Works of beauty I might add. I’m posting the construction pictures on line for all to see what is involved with building a dock in the wilderness.
We have a lot of improvements waiting in the wings such as new mattresses and rustic furniture. We have been toying with the novel idea of converting some camps such as Chipchase and Grayson over to Lund 16 foot boats even though 9.9 hp engines are utilized. Nothing speaks to comfort like a larger boat. Chipchase will be the first to receive a shiny new Lund 16 in 2010.
Something new launched in 2009 was the Non Resident Outdoors card. In effect the idea is to merely buy a fishing stamp each year bypassing the need to fill out forms with the usual redundant information. This card is good for three years before renewal. For folks coming this year without an Outdoors Card we will take you through the application process and your nine dollars.
You know every year is a great year on the Ogoki. The older I get the more I appreciate this beautiful country along with the serenity and natural beauty. There’s no place like it and when the ice comes and Judy and I have to move back to Thunder Bay for the winter, I immediately start counting down the days till spring.
We have decided to hold the line on prices in 2010 as well as continue the $995 special (for 7 days) of last year but at Scallop Lake only, in the month of July only. If July fills quickly we may extend it into August. Why Scallop you ask? Because it is only 35 air miles.
We got beat up pretty good by the economy this past year so we won't be able to implement all the improvements that we’d like to do but we still plan to add sky lights to Whiteclay and Pickett plus a whole whack of new boats seats. There will be walkway extensions and rebuilds and stuff like that at Pickett and Scallop.
You will notice that all of our newsletters are posted on line now and that appears to be the way forward. Also I’d like to mention we will be reducing the number of Sports Shows that we attend each year. They have become very expensive and while we love to share stories and talk to our friends, the reality is most folks use the internet to book vacations now. Over the next couple of years we will post which shows we will be attending. This year for example we will not be visiting Minneapolis but will return in 2011.
For 2010 here are the shows: All Canada.. Chicago .. Milwaukee.. Green Bay General Sport show.. Detroit/ Novi. If the Sport Shows continue their decline we will abandon them altogether.
We plan to increase our website presence this year and post pictures that’ll certainly take most of us down memory lane. And finally, If my crystal ball is working right, I think we’ll be talking about how we all survived the greatest recession ever, by Christmas of 2011. Break out both the eggnog and champagne. You heard it here! Promise.
Kindest regards to all: Judy, David, Brud, Penny and Nicole wish all of you a wonderful Christmas and good health in 2010.
Paul
