2011 Moose Letter

When I started thinking about writing this years
moose results letter, I figured my opening sentence
would be to declare 2011 as the toughest hunt we
have ever had in 20 years. Well, as it turns out, that
is only partly true. The opening week was the worst
ever. You guessed it - warm weather - south east winds
and so on. Week two was warm as well but with more
westerly winds the harvest began.

I'm pleased to report that while 2011 wasn't the most productive hunt ever (because of week #1) it produce some prime bulls. Before everyone jumps to conclusions that week one is always like that, I took a look back and the harvest is almost evenly divided between week one and two. The summer of 2011 was one of the warmest ever and it appears the fall will be the same. Next year ? Well, you could be freezing on stand in six inches of snow. Brrrrrr.

If you are planning a hunt in 2012 now would be a good time to line up your lake and time frame. There will be only a modest price increase to offset flying and fuel fluctuations.

Kind regards to all and all the best for the remainder of 2011.
