What are the temperatures like in Northwestern Ontario?
Northwestern Ontario weather can be quite variable. Be sure to always bring rain gear. Late May or mid September weather can see big temperature changes from one day to the next. A warm jacket and light gloves should be packed.

Where can we buy our fishing/hunting licence?
Both hunting and fishing licences are sold at our base.

The Ogoki Frontier accepts Visa and Master card (3% sur charge applies), travellers cheques, cashiers cheques or cash.

Payment by personal cheque, must be received 30 days prior to departure.
What about overnight accommodations?
We have four guest cabins at the nominal cost of $35 (US) per person per night. You use your own sleeping bag and pillow and we supply the towels.
Should we bring along our 'fish finders'?
It is advisable to bring your own fish finder for all lakes.
Is there any charge for cubed ice?
Cubed ice is complementary.
SunsetIs the lake water safe to drink?
For the most part yes, but at certain times of the year there is pollen and insect activity on the surface. To be on the safe side, we fly in filtered drinking water for you at no charge in plastic containers.
How much weight are we allowed to bring?
As a guide, figure on 140 lbs per person or consult with the gross weight capabilities of the aircraft. (See trip planning) Our Air Carrier is very safety conscious and will not fly overloaded aircraft.
Where can we get live bait?
To pre-order bait, let us know and we will order it for you from a local bait dealer who will deliver it to the dock the day you fly in.
Can we bring bait across the border?
Yes, night crawlers only, provided they are packed in artificial paper bedding. Phone Canada Customs at (807) 964-2093 for more information.
Is beer, spirits or wine available in Armstrong?
Yes. Armstrong is a full service community and is about 4 miles from our base. If you have any requests regarding any beverages, please ask. Very Important: Canned beer only.

Yes and No. Armstrong has a paved 4800' runway but no regularly scheduled passenger service.
If you plan on flying in with your own aircraft we would be happy to help you with all of the details including pick-up, shopping etc.
For those of you wishing commercial passenger service, Northwest Airlines provides service to Thunder Bay International 2-3 times daily as well Air Canada and WestJet fly in several times a day. There are several rental car companies at the Airport. From there it is a very scenic 3 hour drive north. Whatever you choose, we will help you with all of the details.
What type of fishing tackle should I bring?
For Walleye: jigs, spinner rigs, specialized crankbaits, slip sinker rigs.
For Northern: spoons, crankbaits, jigs.
Ogoki Frontier encourages barbless hooks.
Do I need a life jacket?
Yes...it's the law. Floater cushions are no longer legal. You must have a wearable life jacket that legally satisfies the law in your home state.
How much beer or cigarettes can we bring into Canada?

Just a reminder that handguns are strictly forbidden in Canada.
What happens if there is some kind of emergency in the bush?
We have the latest Motorola 2 way radios at each camp for your safety and convenience. They are monitored at both the base and our manned Whiteclay West location.
Are bears a problem?
Not really. Bears are everywhere through the North country. We ask all of our customers to dump their fish guts on the opposite lakeshore (or island) for the sea birds and double bag their garbage. We pick up garbage on our service calls and fly the balance out with your group when you leave. No garbage...no bears. Just remember your camp is equipped with a radio. Tell us and we'll look after it.
