Black Bear Hunting

Black Bear Hunting - The Ontario Bear Hunt

There is no big game hunt that can get your heart pumping more than bear hunting! Black Bears are everywhere in Ontario and do often become a nuisance around Northwestern Ontario communities.

Living on the edge of Thunder Bay we are frequently visited by bears who are looking for a quick snack from compost bins or foraging along streams and park areas. The abundance of raspberries, fruit trees, and garbage (compost) make towns a desirable place for bears to wander.

The Ontario Black Bear commands respect and caution. While a solitary black bear will rarely attack, the presence of bear cubs can seriously change that situation. Black bear hunting is a great sport and Ogoki Frontier is pleased to offer guests this thrilling experience. While some say Ontario Bear Hunting is cruel, reality is that Black Bear hunting helps to control the population of bears and when they cancelled the spring bear hunt one year communities saw an immediate increase in nuisance bears.

Ogoki Frontier offers deluxe moose & bear hunts in the virgin Boreal forests north of Armstrong Ontario. Contact us for your next Ontario Bear Hunting Trip!

Black Bear Hunting in OntarioThe Quality of Bear Meat

Why should you hunt black bears in the Boreal forest north of Armstrong? Simple, bears living in the wild eat healthier natural foods. We think you will taste the difference!

There is lots of discussion on the web about whether you should eat bear and how to cook bear meat. As all wild meat has the potential for parasites you do need to cook it thoroughly and there are lots of bear meat recipes on the web to help you get started.

A hunter on one bear hunting forum writes " I wasn't going to hunt bear, until I tried the meat for the first time last year. I had some pepperoni and some honey garlic sausage. It was delicious. You bet I'll be going for one or two this year! " I don't think I could say it better myself so I borrowed his well chosen words... Right on Bud!

NOTE: The video above was not shot at Ogoki Frontier but it could have been and for the purposes of this website we felt that it captures the thrill of getting close to a black bear, maybe in this case a little too close! There is some fantastic bear hunting video footage on youtube that share both the excitement and the danger associated with the sport. One thing to note about this bear hunting video is that it ended without harm to the small bear!
